I’m like

I honestly believe that the following people are just mad because they weren’t born in Dade County:
- Floridians who hate Florida, and publicly announce this every chance they have (“I’m so glad I left!” is the key phrase you hear)
- Floridians who hate Miami for no legitimate reason (these are the people from Orlando, Coco Beach, Jacksonville, etc who posted “Shit Miami People Say” to show their pseudo superiority (“see! we’re not immigrants!”))
I’ve never met a Miamian* who’s like “yeah FLORIDA IS THE WOOOORSTTT” because they (and I) have really lucked out.

I’m disagreeing with this so hard. I AM so glad I left Florida, and I’m sure as fuck am not jealous that I wasn’t born in Dade. I hated living in Dade so much that I could cry thinking about it. And I do know people from Miami that I KNOW are reading this right now thinking, “I can’t wait to get the hell out of here.”
I feel like the people I grew up with who are still stuck in South Florida (I’m talking about Treasure Coast) who tell me, “Oh.. it’s not so bad here anymore…” are in SO much fucking denial about how they’ve limited their lives.
Living in DC has made me realize how shitty Florida is from education, to healthcare, to transportation, to community development, to social welfare… I can go on and on.
To quote one of my best friends, Rachel, who moved up here one month before I did, “I’m so glad I don’t have to explain my healthy lifestyle to people anymore.”
If I were still living in that state on my death bed, I would have asked a good friend to drag me across the state border to die. (Who am I kidding.. Georgia probably isn’t any better.)
